Abstract
Cefxime(Suprax¢ç) is new oral third-generation cepahalosphorin with introduction of aminothia-zole at the seventh position. We evaluated the efficacy of cefixime in the treatment of 30 cases with respiratory infection in childhood hemato-oncologic patients.
We administered the cefixime orally for 7 to 14 days to the patients of acute pharyngotonsillitis(17 cases), acute bronchitis(8 cases), Pneumonia(2 cases) and acute otitis media(3 cases).
The clinical efficacy was 94.1% in acute pharyngotonsillitis(excellent 76.5%, good 17.6%), 87.5% in acute bronchitis(excellent 75%, good 12.5%), 50% in pneumonia and 66.7% in acute otitis media. The overall efficacy rate was 93.3%. The remarkable drug related side effects were not observed.
The results suggested that cefixime was effective therapeutic antibiotics in the treatment of acute respiratory infection in childhood hemato-oncologic patients.
